Navigating a path through the maze...

Welcome to my first newsletter post!

Hey there! My name is Keitumetse and writing has always been my best form of expression, and I'm so happy I've finally gathered the courage to show up and articulate my thoughts through this newsletter.

Why Compass Corner?

Well, this is the corner where we gather to figure out all things life! As a young girl in my teens, life seemed to mirror a maze, which I would attribute to the uncertainty and confusion that came from a lack of exposure, particularly in the career field. Taking from this experience, I wanted to have our little intimate corner where we navigate our careers, share our experiences, prioritize development, and walk the journey together. P.S.: Your experience might be the encouragement of persistence that the next person needs!

Let me tell you a little bit about me…

I grew up in a small town called Mahikeng in the North West, and without realizing it, the size and lack of development of the town I’d grown up in inevitably became the lens through which I measured the opportunities available to me in both my career development and personal growth.

Be that as it may, I've always had a knack for development, growth, and optimizing available resources to complete the puzzle in an attempt to grow that much closer to the fragmented version of myself I’d occasionally daydream about.

Time swiftly passed by, and even though I walked into the next phase of my young adult life clueless about what I wanted to study or who I wanted to become— never mind having the slightest idea of who I envisioned my highest self as— I followed the breadcrumbs led by my passion and eventually discovered my love for human resources as I progressed in my degree.

In my heart of hearts, there lived a little warrior: an advocate for equity, a mind that thinks beyond the surface, and an analytical interest in resolving matters objectively. I never quite realized that all these characteristics and points of interest could represent the human resources field. I'm quite glad to have landed on its doorstep with a willingness to learn and an unmatched desire to execute.

However, while I’ve managed to summarize my story, that's not all (unfortunately). Post my undergraduate qualification, I quickly became engulfed in a motion of confusion. Human resources is so broad, with many facets under this one title. Which area allows me to fully utilize my skills, points of interest, and knowledge without feeling misplaced?

This newsletter is my quest to answer that question, and I'm taking you along on this journey with me. Whether you directly resonate with the mirrored maze, or you’ve already established a field for yourself in your career, join in on the ride. I’m sure there are some nuggets of insight you can nibble on along the way.

P.S.: This newsletter is mostly directed at individuals like myself, who went with the motion of life having an idea of what their passion is but feeling clueless about how to execute it and witness that passion materialize— all while running against the clock of young adulthood (and the responsibilities that come with it). Let's figure it out together as I share what I've learned thus far in my career (hopefully, you’ll share your insights and lessons too). I truly believe that with time, we will find the perfect title of occupation aligned with our interests.

Thank you for joining me, and I will see you in the next newsletter post!
