• Introduction: I advise all jobseekers to include a Personal Statement, introducing you, your character and key skills that will be of interest to the hiring managers.
• Showcase your education: Be sure to make it prominent on your CV, including the educational establishments you attended, your degree, A-Levels and GCSEs. Be sure to include any relevant awards you received too.
• Highlight relevant work experience: Include work experience you have gained during your studies, whether paid or voluntary. Discuss the areas of law and relevant tasks you carried out to demonstrate your practical skills, knowledge and understanding.
• Detail your skills: Identify key skills you possess that are required for the role and highlight them on your CV. This could be anything from communication to research skills, and client service to IT skills.
• Tailor your CV: Make sure that your CV highlights your skills, experience and knowledge that match the requirements of that role. This demonstrates to hiring managers that you have taken the time to consider their needs and your understanding of the role.
• Keep it concise: Hiring managers are usually looking through dozens of CVs for entry-level roles... make it easy for them to see why you are the right candidate for the role. Use bullet points and clear formatting. Avoid bright colours and fancy formatting, this doesn't make your CV stand out. Remember, it's the content that matters.

Prepare for your interviews

Interview preparation is absolutely crucial. You've got over the first hurdle and now it's your opportunity to meet and impress your potential employer. Being ill-prepared can be disastrous. Thorough preparation demonstrates your commitment to the role.

Research the organisation thoroughly. Familiarise yourself with their practice areas, their client base and recent news. Prepare thoughtful questions based on your findings to highlight you have done your homework. Ask about the team, the caseload, and interesting recent news you've read about on their website.

Practice common interview questions and consider scenarios that demonstrate your strengths, experiences and aspirations effectively.
