Navigating the "Overqualified" Dilemma in Recruitment.

Having worked in recruitment for a while, I wanted to share my thoughts on a common issue: candidates being labeled as "overqualified."

When I hear this, I often get responses like, “I can do the job easily” or “They just want to pay less.” While there's some truth to these statements, the reality can be more complex.

For example, hiring managers might prefer a mid-level candidate rather than someone with extensive experience, fearing potential conflicts if the overqualified candidate tries to take control or jumps to a better opportunity quickly. Companies also want to avoid paying more than necessary, especially with many suitable applicants available.

There are valid reasons for hiring less experienced candidates, such as the potential for training them in the company’s specific processes. However, more experienced candidates shouldn’t be disregarded for what might seem like junior roles. The key is ensuring a good match in experience, ambition, and cultural fit.

As for concerns about "fake job postings," I’ve encountered this before. Candidates worry about roles that aren’t real, but most recruiters genuinely seek qualified candidates. In my experience, the right candidate often emerges from these situations, leading to successful placements.

I enjoy working with experienced candidates, helping them find roles that may initially seem below their experience level. Ultimately, it's about motivation and capability, not just years of experience.

If you’re facing challenges with being deemed "overqualified," I’m here to help. Feel free to reach out for guidance on your CV and job search strategy. Recruitment has taught me a lot, and I’m happy to share that knowledge!
