Navigating the new normal with Generative AI

It was a pleasure to present on the opportunities and challenges posed by Generative AI at the 20th CITIC CLSA Japan Forum.

Key takeaways:

  1. Enhanced Customer Experience: Generative AI is transforming customer interactions by providing personalized and real-time support. This technology enhances customer satisfaction and engagement through advanced conversational agents and tailored financial advice, making customer service more efficient and effective. (Moody's Case Study: Link 1 and Link 2 )
  2. Risk Management and Fraud Detection: By leveraging advanced algorithms, Gen AI significantly improves risk prediction and mitigation. It enhances fraud detection mechanisms through anomaly detection and pattern recognition, ensuring a more secure financial environment. (Symphony AI Case Study: Link)
  3. Operational Efficiency: Generative AI automates routine tasks and processes, reducing operational costs and increasing efficiency. This allows financial institutions to focus more on strategic initiatives and complex problem-solving, optimizing overall productivity. (Microsoft Copilot: Link)
  4. Data analytics & innovative solutions: AI tools assist financial institutions in the creation of new service offerings for their customers. With the power of Data, companies are now creating new service offerings and modelling solutions that are intuitive and provide the next generation of productivity to the users with Microsoft Azure, AI, and Microsoft Teams. (Microsoft LSEG Partnership: Link )
  5. Learning and education: The integration of AI in financial services necessitates continuous learning and education for the workforce. Employees must unlearn outdated practices and reskill themselves to engage more deeply with AI technologies. This ongoing education enables them to develop and deploy new products and services, driving innovation and maintaining competitive advantage. (Microsoft Learn Portal: Link )

Also, during my interactions with attendees, I conducted a brief survey and observed the following key points:

  • Universal Agreement on Potential: All attendees recognized the potential of Generative AI and similar technologies. However, most are not using them due to two main reasons: ongoing implementations and lack of training.
  • Current Practices: Most of the attendees still rely on manual methods for data analysis, research, and report preparation. Although they have shown interest in learning and applying Generative AI tools in their work areas.
  • Awareness of AI Tools: Despite all the news around Copilot and other AI tools, attendees lacked knowledge on how these tools could enhance productivity in Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Adoption and use cases: Very few attendees had GenAI/ChatGPT or similar tools on their mobile devices. However, when informed about their usefulness through use cases, most attendees downloaded #Microsoft #Copilot. Upon using it, they experienced the transformative power of technology. Thank you for sharing your insights from the 20th CITIC CLSA Japan Forum. They are both enlightening and inspiring. Your emphasis on enhanced customer experience, risk management, operational efficiency, data analytics, and continuous learning underscores Gen AI's transformative potential in the financial sector. This is especially true considering that by 2026, 75% of businesses will use generative AI to create synthetic customer data, up from less than 5% last year. Besides your key takeaways, I think it's important to highlight the role of ethical AI practices. As we adopt these technologies, ensuring data privacy, transparency, and fairness in AI algorithms is crucial to maintaining trust and compliance.?Moreover, fostering a culture of innovation where employees feel empowered to experiment with new AI tools can further accelerate adoption and drive meaningful change.? Your call to action for investing in training, accelerating implementation, enhancing awareness, and adopting AI tools is spot-on. Together, these steps can unlock GenAI's full potential, paving the way for a more efficient and innovative future. Once again, thank you for your valuable contribution to this vital conversation.
