From February 5th to May 8th, I had the privilege of interning at Black Diamond Networks as an Account Executive, tasked with generating potential leads for our sales team. In this article, I'll walk you through my journey of the past three months, outlining the challenges I encountered navigating a new sales experience and how I overcame them.??
Starting a sales internship with Black Diamond Networks was a gateway to the dynamic realm of sales, offering me a meticulously crafted training program to ignite my potential. In this article, I explore the invaluable lessons and opportunities that awaited me within its dynamic corridors.?
?At BDN, my first day introduced me to tailored sales training modules, designed to equip me with essential skills for success. From effective communication to client relationship management, these sessions, guided by experienced mentors, set the stage for my career growth.??
?Making my first cold calls to new clients presented several challenges. Firstly, overcoming the initial nerves and fear of rejection was daunting. Additionally, navigating unfamiliar territory without prior experience required quick thinking and adaptability. Understanding how to effectively pitch our services and engage potential clients was another hurdle, as was managing objections and rejections gracefully. However, each challenge presented an opportunity for growth, allowing me to refine my approach and develop resilience in the face of adversity.??
Learning how to understand the Life Sciences and Technologies sector of business proposed its own set of challenges. Delving into titles such as Quality and Validation demanded a deeper dive to grasp the specific skill sets associated with these roles. The complexity of the industry necessitated not only a broad understanding but also a nuanced comprehension of the intricate processes and regulations unique to this sector. Navigating through terminology and concepts unfamiliar to me initially posed a significant obstacle, requiring dedicated effort and research to bridge the knowledge gap. However, each challenge served as a steppingstone, allowing me to gain valuable insights and expertise crucial for success in this dynamic field.??
Securing a promotion from a recruiter to an account manager within the first two weeks of my internship marked a pivotal moment in my professional journey. This rapid advancement not only validated my capabilities but also demonstrated the trust and confidence placed in me by the company. Transitioning into the role of an account manager presented new challenges and responsibilities, requiring me to adapt quickly and demonstrate leadership skills. However, with the support of my colleagues and mentors, I embraced this opportunity wholeheartedly, leveraging my background in recruitment to forge strong client relationships and drive business growth. The promotion served as a testament to my dedication and determination, propelling me forward on a path of continued success and achievement within the organization.?
Training with my site manager, Kyle Meyer , proved to be an invaluable aspect of my internship experience. Kyle emerged as an excellent resource, providing guidance and support throughout my internship. His depth of knowledge and expertise in the field not only enriched my understanding of the industry but also served as a source of inspiration. Kyle's willingness to share insights, answer questions, and offer constructive feedback fostered a conducive learning environment, enabling me to grow and thrive in my role. His approachable demeanor and willingness to invest time and effort into my development were instrumental in shaping my journey as an intern. From providing mentorship on navigating complex projects to offering practical advice on professional growth, Kyle's mentorship left a lasting impact, equipping me with invaluable skills and confidence as I ventured into the world of Life Sciences and Technologies.?

Some tips I would offer to an incoming Sales Representative at Black Diamond:??
1. Build Strong Relationships: Prioritize building authentic and lasting relationships with clients. Take the time to understand their needs, challenges, and goals. By establishing trust and rapport, you'll position yourself as a valuable partner rather than just a salesperson.?
2. Continuous Learning: The world of sales is ever evolving, so commit to continuous learning and self-improvement. Stay updated on industry trends, market changes, and product knowledge. Seek feedback from mentors and colleagues and be open to refining your approach based on insights gained from both successes and setbacks.?
3. Embrace Resilience: Rejection is inevitable in sales, but it's how you respond that matters. Embrace resilience and view setbacks as opportunities for growth. Learn from rejections, adapt your strategies, and maintain a positive attitude even in the face of challenges. Remember, every "no" brings you one step closer to a "yes."?
4. Risks are Rewards: Putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation only helps to build your confidence. By always striving for more whether it be reaching out to a manager or asking for your next opportunity, take your shot. A great quote to compliment that would be "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take"- Wayne Gretzky.
In conclusion, my internship at Black Diamond Networks has been nothing short of transformative. From the challenges of navigating a new industry to the rapid advancement from recruiter to account manager within the first two weeks, this experience has been a testament to the power of perseverance and the support of exceptional mentors. I am deeply grateful to Ashley LeBert , Kyle Meyer , and Cam LeBlanc for their unwavering guidance, encouragement, and belief in my abilities. Their mentorship not only shaped my professional journey but also instilled in me a sense of confidence and determination to tackle any obstacle that comes my way. As I embark on the next chapter of my career, I carry with me the invaluable lessons learned and the profound impact of their mentorship. Thank you, Ashley, Kyle, and Cameron, for helping me realize my potential and for being instrumental in my growth and success. I also would like to thank my colleagues Jake Bell , Adam Solari , and Daniel O'Brien for their support and taking this journey with me. Lastly, a major shoutout to Stefanie Boyer, PhD?? for being a resource throughout my first internship, and helping make connections with the Bryant Sales Program and Black Diamond Networks .
