Navigating mid-career turning points

The biggest Myth in Mid Career

I'll quit at 50, I cannot continue this race till I retire

When I hear people saying this, I question them - What is the criteria for you to quit. If it's money only, you are ready now as well.

Quitting is not just about money, it's more about mindset.

You need to strategise your exit by

  • having a clear WHY; frustration, boredom, stagnancy are not valid reasons
  • preparing yourself mentally
  • engaging in some other activity that you love, much before you actually exit
  • good money management plan

Let's look at a few options in the Mid-Career that might make the journey more fulfilling:

? Generating an alternate source of income by leveraging knowledge and experience

As a mid-career professional, you have acquired practical knowledge which is extremely valuable. Putting all your experience in a structured form, you can add a lot of value to the young budding professionals and students. ? Actively engaging in some kind of "Giving-Back" activity.

Not just giving money, but by creating a larger impact by investing time as well. You might say that you are completely overloaded with your job, but trust me, you need this break to be more effective at job.

Mid career is not about working hard, its also about thinking,

  • thinking to add more value in your role,
  • thinking for your next steps

? Switching Careers

Mid-careers are usually characterised by stagnancy, boredom, exertion, etc. If this is the case, you must think of switching careers. What might stop you is the risk involved, but the reality is that you are taking a bigger risk by not switching.

In this video, I have shared my strategy to switch profiles, take a look and I am sure it would help

? Full time entreprenuership

This is a tough choice but a great option if you are mentally prepared for challenges.

To begin your entrepreneurship journey, you need to answer the following:

  • Why do you want to get into enerpreneurship (clarity and a clear WHY)
  • What problem / challenge can you solve and for whom
  • How can you solve that
  • Have you set your priorities right

Note: You might not have a complete roadmap ready before you quit, and that's completely normal

Remember, things do not fall in place unless you take actions

Hope this helps, would love to have your thoughts in the comments.
