Navigating The Menopause as a Female Founder

This week I have been occupied with the launch of two Women In Business Network (WIBN) Groups in Wandsworth and yesterday in Wimbledon. In Wimbledon I was delighted to meet Laura Wood a Menopause and Mid-Life Coach, @Laura Woods is one of a growing number of experts helping us navigate this often difficult stage in a woman's life and it seemed appropriate in National Menopause Awareness Month to feature today this important topic

Menopause is a significant life stage that affects all women, but for female founders in the UK, it can present unique challenges. Running a business while managing the physical, emotional, and cognitive changes that accompany menopause often adds another layer of complexity to an already demanding role.

Symptoms like fatigue, hot flushes, anxiety, and brain fog can make it difficult to maintain focus, meet deadlines, and lead with the same level of energy. In a sector that often requires long hours and quick decision-making, these challenges can impact productivity and confidence. Despite these struggles, menopause remains an under-discussed topic in the business world, leaving many female founders feeling isolated.

However, it's important to recognise that menopause doesn’t have to derail a business. Founders who embrace flexibility, prioritise their well-being, and create support networks can continue to thrive. Open dialogue about menopause in the workplace can also help reduce stigma, encouraging a culture of understanding.

In the UK, increased awareness of menopause in the workplace is helping to drive change. Initiatives like menopause policies and training for employees are on the rise. For female founders, leveraging these resources and being open about their experiences can not only support personal health but also foster a more inclusive and supportive business environment.

Menopause is just one chapter in a founder’s journey, but with the right approach, it can be navigated successfully, leaving space for continued growth and success.

Later today, members of our #Founder2Leader programme can hear more about this topic when our guest speaker will give a snapshot of the impact of menopause at work. You can still register here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIkceGtrz4tHdTi5DHjcekd4iVOuLl2E2ec

I couldn't agree more - it's so important in the workplace to make sure that women are feeling supported, not isolated at this time in life
