Navigating Life & Work as a Mom!

As a working woman, entrepreneur, and mom of seven, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate a divorce while also dealing with the demands of work and family life. But with self-care, accountability, introspection, and learning, it's possible to not only survive, but thrive.

During this same time period, my own mother battled cancer, adding another layer of complexity to an already difficult situation. But by prioritizing self-care and making a commitment to positive change, I was able to come out on the other side stronger and more empowered than ever.

It wasn't easy.

Self-care is critical when dealing with the stress and emotional toll of a divorce and custody battle, especially when juggling the demands of work and family. Whether it's exercise, meditation, therapy, or simply taking time for yourself, self-care can help you stay grounded and focused on what's important.

Accountability is also important. It's easy to fall into a victim mindset and blame others for your situation, but taking ownership of your part in the situation and making a commitment to positive change can help you move forward and make the best of the situation.

Introspection and learning are also key to navigating a divorce and custody battle as a working woman, entrepreneur, and mom. It's an opportunity to reflect on your values, your goals, and what you want out of life. By focusing on personal growth and learning from the experience, you can come out on the other side stronger and more empowered.

So how do you do it?

  1. Practice self-care daily! This can be as simple as taking a walk outside, meditating, or doing something you enjoy every day. Making time for yourself and taking care of your physical and mental health is critical for coping with stress and staying focused on what's important.
  2. Seek support! Whether it's from family, friends, or a therapist, having a support system can be invaluable during difficult times. It's important to have people you can turn to for emotional support, practical help, and a listening ear.
  3. Focus on what you can control! When facing a challenging situation, it's easy to get overwhelmed and feel like everything is out of your control. But focusing on what you can control, such as your own actions and decisions, can help you feel more empowered and make progress towards your goals.
  4. Practice gratitude! Even in tough times, there are often things to be grateful for. Practicing gratitude can help shift your mindset and focus on the positive aspects of your life, rather than dwelling on the negative.
  5. Stay organized! Staying organized can help you feel more in control and reduce stress. Consider using a planner, calendar, or app to help you stay on top of things.
  6. Take things one day at a time! When facing a challenging situation, it's easy to get overwhelmed by the big picture. But focusing on one day at a time can make it feel more manageable and help you stay present in the moment.
  7. Engage in creative expression! Whether it's writing, drawing, painting, or playing music, engaging in creative expression can be a powerful outlet for processing emotions and reducing stress.
  8. Learn something new! Engaging in learning can be a powerful way to build resilience and cope with challenges. Consider taking a class, learning a new skill, or pursuing a hobby that interests you.
  9. Practice compassion! Being kind to yourself and others can help cultivate a sense of connection and empathy, which can be helpful during tough times. Consider practicing self-compassion through positive self-talk and treating yourself with kindness and understanding.
  10. Keep going! We need you.

Through it all, my book "F*ck Your Office Snacks" was a constant source of inspiration and guidance, it gave me purpose when I was feeling purposeless. While not specifically about divorce or custody battles, the book is all about self-care, self-advocacy, and empowerment in the workplace. By reflecting on my own experiences as a Chief People Officer and advocating for a better workplace culture, I hope to inspire readers to demand more for themselves and others in all aspects of life.

Whether you're navigating a divorce and custody battle, battling cancer, or simply looking to improve your mental health and empower yourself as a working woman, entrepreneur, and mom, remember the importance of self-care, accountability, introspection, and learning.

And know that you're not alone in the journey.
