Navigating Life With Joy As Your Compass
"Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain." - Joseph Campbell.
We all come into the world without consciously choosing to, as our conception and eventual birth result from our parents' choices and factors beyond us. In the same vein, we also do not get to choose the families we are born into, the countries we become citizens of, our physical looks, and many other predetermined attributes. However, after we are born and grow to become conscious of ourselves, we have choices to determine the kind of life we will live.
Life is a gift we are all given to experience for a short period, but not everyone views it as a gift. Some rather see life as misery because of their situations which cause them to live in sadness perpetually. Often, I find people like this wish things were different for them but cannot see how to get out of the place they find themselves. And due to this feeling of helplessness, they fail to pursue the best life they could be living.
Realizing the Need for Joy
There comes a time in everyone's life when they pause and realize their situations for what they are. Those constantly affected by despair come to see how unpleasant their problems are and realize that things could get better. This is usually preceded by the realization that life is only for a limited period and that we all always have our choices to make.
For some, the hardships they are exposed to create the feeling that their path is set in stone, and they have no hope to break free of their circumstances. These people could be superstars,?celebrities, business leaders,?and the likes, as well as everyday people. On the outside, they appear to have their?lives together and to be living well, but a deep look into their personal lives and one would realize that things are not going well.?
For affected individuals, they know that they're not happy despite their accomplishments, their wealth, friends, and all. After spending much time introspecting, they realize how their lives are off track with joy. This realization then forces them to seek ways through which their situations can improve for the better and make them live joyfully.

Why Should You Chose Joy as Your Compass?
Imagine being at the peak of your career and your mother faces the health crisis of her life!
You drop everything to spend the next five years taking care of her as she battles ovarian cancer.
You spend the last years of her life together — laughing, crying, and ultimately grieving.
You realize that this "life" journey would be worthless without sharing our time with others and experiencing joy as your compass. And, you learn how important it is to laugh, cry, create, dance, and wonder together.
Following your mother's passing, you pour every ounce of yourself into music, honoring her legacy. And you find that the making of the album itself was a journey of determination, perseverance, and joy.
?? THIS is the Kate Schutt Story.
I am incredibly proud to share Kate's journey from a young girl with two older brothers who influenced her interest in sports and music. How that influence formed the foundation that led her to play Division 1 Hockey and Lacrosse while at Harvard, to attend the Berklee School of music, to become an award-winning singer/songwriter and TEDx Speaker.??
E105 of the?#passionstruckpodcast?talks about the power of intentionally as we learn to embrace hope, joy, and ultimately mortality.

How You Can Use Joy As Your Compass
Are you living your life with joy as your compass? Joy is a blessing that actually allows us to steer our lives to what matters most and moves us away from distractions that vie for our attention. Joy lets us self-reflect and uncovers the most important people and things in our lives. Living with joy as our compass allows us to forgo the ego, pride, fear, or sense of scarcity that often gets in the way of life's meaning.
I am currently reading? The Power of Myth?by Joseph Campbell, and one of my favorite quotes from him is, "find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the "pain."
And, I think there is so much truth in that quote. When you use joy as your compass, it may not always guide you to the most comfortable, popular, or painless decisions. The power of Joy is more profound than that. You can transcend to places where life can happen intentionally through joy, and you can become the best version of yourself.
