Navigating an International Job Search

With more than 50% of the global workforce working remotely during the pandemic, we've discovered that we can essentially work from anywhere! As a travel enthusiast, I've drooled over marketing emails inviting me to work in paradise as countries like Iceland and the Grand Caymans have created remote worker visa programs.

As more people get vaccinated and it becomes safe to travel internationally, I predict that you will see a rise in the number of people who not only want to get out of town for the weekend (we've all been cramped in our houses!) but who want a temporary or permanent change of scenery.

With mental health issues on the rise, change is good.new study by NYU found that new and diverse experiences are linked to enhanced happiness, and this relationship is associated with a greater correlation of brain activity

If you are considering an international job search, you are not alone. The latest Randstad Workmonitor Mobility Index found 66% of U.S. workers would move abroad for a higher salary, a share that slightly edges out the 59% of workers around the world outside the U.S. who’d do the same.

I asked top international job search experts for their best advice on how job searching is different outside of the US.

  • Sonal Bahl: Founder of SuperCharge, a Belgium based job search coaching practice and Board Member at INSEAD Alumni Association
  • Zeta Yarwood: Founder of Zeta Yarwood Coaching, an executive and leadership coaching firm based in the United Arab Emirates, and LinkedIn Top Voice 2020
  • Anna Black: Founder of Anna Black Strategic Career Coaching, a firm assisting mid-level career professionals to level up and focus on finding a more fulfilling career. Based in Perth, Australia
  • Shub Faujdar: Founder of JobS-ME Singapore, a holistic career coaching practice based in Singapore. Shub is also a career coach and advisor for INSEAD.

Excited to hear the panels insights. We live in uncertain times. We live in uncharted territory. We live a confused state of expectations. So, what does good like, where does the journey begin? For me it starts with a cup of tea and a biscuit coupled with positive thoughts ??

Thank you for curating and sharing Sarah. A valuable service you provide for so many people. I agree that mobility is likely to skyrocket - in particular I feel there’ll be a significant trend of people moving back closer to family.
