Welcome back to another edition of Privy Presents, a newsletter specifically curated by Privy team to discuss digital identity and other closely related topics, delivered to you every Wednesday.?

Have you ever donated blood? In Indonesia, blood donations are typically facilitated by the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). In addition to their role in social services and public health, PMI is actively involved in disaster relief efforts and plays a vital role in providing blood transfusion services.?

Red Cross Indonesia: working for humanity and on a voluntary basis?

September 17 is commemorated as Indonesian National Red Cross Day. The primary objective of this organization is to deliver efficient and prompt Red Cross services, with a particular focus on aiding the most vulnerable, guided by the principles of neutrality and independence. In addition, PMI also provides health services to prevent and improve health, maintain and treat disease as well as restore health to individuals, families and groups.?

Paper-based health services and long administrative processes?

Speaking of health services, the health sector is one of many industries that still relies heavily on paper usage. The long process from the patient’s registration to the medication retrieval can be a challenging experience for them.?

According to a study conducted at a hospital in Central Java, the results revealed that, on average, a patient had to wait for 15 minutes at the registration section, 30 minutes at the polyclinic section, 40 minutes at the pharmacy section, and 15 minutes at the cashier's section.?

Which means that the cumulative average time needed for every patient is 100 minutes. This contrasted with the Decree of the Minister of Health, which specifies that the waiting time for outpatient care should not exceed 60 minutes (129/Menkes/SK/II/2008).?

Speeding up the administration process with digital identity?

Digital identity is a digital form of physical identity. All personal data information such as full name, date of birth, and ID number are embedded in the digital identity. This data will be used by hospitals to identify the patients and for the verification process.?

Digital identity simplifies the registration process in the healthcare industry, eliminating the need for patients to complete multiple forms or remember various usernames and passwords to access different health services. This streamlined approach reduces registration time, allowing patients to promptly receive the treatment they require. As a result, hospitals can concentrate more on facilitating the healing process for patients, free from unnecessary administrative hassles.?

Moreover, patients can also view their health data such as medical records easily and precisely. Cases such as duplicate medical records which can be detrimental to organizations such as hospitals can be avoided.?

??

Initiating the adoption of integrated digital identity technology within the healthcare sector not only fosters patient trust but also enhances overall patient satisfaction. Beyond focusing on patient health, the healthcare industry must prioritize patient safety and comfort in the utilization of its services.?
