Navigating Global Complexity: Thriving Between Cultures

Navigating Global Complexity: Thriving Between Cultures

This week marks a milestone in my journey as a global HR professional working at a company at the crossroads of cultures—a Brazilian-based parent company with global impact in the creator economy Hotmart Company and US presence through Teachable ??????????

I have spent the week in NYC to launch our new office and as I reflect on the journey so far, I’m struck by how this experience has stretched me not just as an HR leader but as a strategist, culture builder, and advocate for people-first leadership in a global context. Here’s what this role has taught me about opportunities, learnings, and challenges—and how they’re shaping our business impact.

? Opportunities

  • Driving Cultural Synergy: Our unique positioning allows us to take the best of both worlds: the creativity and warmth of Brazilian culture combined with the structure and focus of an American business mindset. Bridging these strengths is critical to shaping a unified global culture.
  • Global Talent Strategy: Building a cohesive talent strategy that considers the distinct labor markets, employee expectations, and cultural nuances in both countries is as rewarding as it is complex. It’s not just about hiring; it’s about crafting an employee value proposition that transcends borders.

?? Strategic Learnings

  • Culture as a Competitive Advantage: A company’s culture can either accelerate or stall its growth. Aligning leadership across regions to articulate and embody shared values is one of the most strategic investments we’re making.
  • The value of experience: We are a remote first company and making sure we provide similar experience to how people live our values is important. Establishing clear processes, rituals and also having in-person intentional moments has been pivotal.
  • Local Empowerment with Global Vision: Empowering local teams to lead in a way that respects their context, while ensuring alignment with global priorities, has been a key lesson in balancing autonomy with strategy.

? Strategic Challenges

  • Retention in a Competitive Market: Attracting and retaining top talent in both Brazil and the U.S. requires crafting tailored yet cohesive employee experiences and strategies that stand out in competitive labor markets.
  • Leading Through Complexity: Navigating different labor laws, market dynamics, and leadership styles requires not only technical expertise but also a strong focus on people-centered leadership.

The Bigger Picture: HR as a Business Partner

This role has reinforced my understanding that HR is a strategic function that drives business outcomes. By building a culture of belonging, aligning leadership across regions, and creating strategies that put people at the center, we’re actively shaping the future of the organization.

As I head back to Brazil, I’m taking with me a renewed commitment to making HR a driver of global business success. For anyone navigating similar complexities or curious about building global teams that thrive, I’d love to connect and exchange insights!
