Navigating Generation Gaps

During a Q&A at a conference this week, a participant asked a speaker about ageism in the workplace. The speaker promptly started talking about discrimination against applicants for being “too young” for a position. At the same time, some people in the audience thought the answer was going to address older people being squeezed out!
People on both ends of the age spectrum were worried about age discrimination. Talk about a generation gap!
At the largest regatta in Annapolis a few weeks ago, a significant number of boats that made it onto the podium were sailing with multigenerational crew.
In case data doesn’t do it for you, that is the anecdotal evidence there is a lot to be gained from learning how to work with a team across generations. We bring different biases, lived experiences, perspectives, wisdom, and even classroom learning. When we think about the benefits of diversity, age diversity is often overlooked.
Successfully integrating multiple generations requires intentional effort. Next Wednesday, we will be talking about power plays, communication clashes, and smashing stereotypes. Whether you exist in a multi-generational workforce or want to, this Insight Hour will help maximize your team potential.
Join us Wednesday, May 22nd at 11:00 Eastern (-5 GMT) for this closed-door zoom session for executives. We will be finished in less than 60 minutes so you can make your next appointment.
