Say Hello to Stella Terra, the World’s First Solar-Powered Off-Road Vehicle
Students at Eindhoven University of Technology have created the world's first solar-powered off-road vehicle, named "Stella Terra." This innovation operates independently from traditional charging infrastructure and can handle off-road conditions.
It achieves a top speed of 145 km/h, weighs 1,200 kg, and boasts a 630 km range, powered by rooftop photovoltaic (PV) panels. The Solar Team Eindhoven designed various vehicle components for off-road use, eliminating the need for fossil fuels or external charging. Stella Terra represents a sustainable transportation breakthrough, highlighting solar energy's potential in the automotive industry.
Hyundai Mobis Unveils a Cost-Effective Autonomous Parking System with MPS 1.0P (Premium)
Hyundai Mobis introduces 'MPS 1.0P (Premium),' an upgraded Mobis Parking System, enabling autonomous parking with 'Memory Parking Assist (MPA).' The system uses video-based sensors, combining ultrasonic sensors and SVM cameras for parking assistance up to 100 meters.
It's cost-effective and aims for adoption in regions like Europe and China. The 'Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA)' now includes parking line recognition for parking in empty spaces. Hyundai Mobis aims for fully unmanned autonomous parking (Auto Valet Parking or AVP) and innovative urban autonomous driving solutions, distinguishing itself with cost-effective technology using ultrasonic and SVM cameras without expensive radar or lidar sensors.
Lamborghini & Ducati Unveil an Innovative Communication System for Enhanced Road Safety
Italian automaker Lamborghini and motorcycle manufacturer Ducati, in collaboration with the Connected Motorcycle Consortium (CMC), have developed a motorcycle-to-car communication system to enhance road safety.
This technology integrates motorbikes into the world of connected mobility, aiming to reduce accidents. CMC, a global association of leading two-wheeled vehicle manufacturers, has been working on incorporating motorbike-generated information into Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication systems, recognizing the unique dynamics and requirements of motorcycles.
Ducati focused on three critical accident scenarios, where motorcycles are obscured by oncoming cars or lack visibility of the road ahead. In these situations, communication between vehicles equipped with on-board sensors could significantly enhance safety. The three accident cases examined and demonstrated during the project include Intersection Movement Assist (IMA), Left Turn Assist (LTA), and Do Not Pass Warning (DNPW).
