Navigating the Data Science Landscape

Summary of WiMLDS-Hyderabad (Hyderabad Women in Machine Learning and Data Science) 9th Online Meetup

WiMLDS is a 501(c)(3) organization. Its mission is to support and promote women and gender minorities who are practising, studying or are interested in the fields of machine learning and data science. WiMLDS-Hyderabad is the Hyderabad chapter of the organisation which was founded in October 2019. We organise meetups every month and bring in experts from the field of Data Science and Machine Learning to share their experiences with us. WiMLDS-Hyderabad's 9th Online Meetup was held on 14th August 2020. Here is a quick summary of the vital points covered in the presentation. For the detailed presentation, refer to the video below.

Speaker: Danielle Deterring is a Content Developer at NVIDIA's Deep Learning Institute, where she teaches engineers the skills needed to further their careers in Data Science and AI. Danielle switched careers successfully from being a hardware reliability engineer to an AI educator. In the past, she has also worked as a Business Analyst and Web Developer. Danielle covered the following points in her presentation:

Danielle explained how Data Science falls at the intersection of Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science and Business Sense. However, there is also no denying the fact that each one of these areas can take years to master. On the other hand, there are tons of paths available that one can take to learn these skills.
