Navigating the Corporate Jungle: A Review of 'Predictable Career- My True Life Story' by Hannah Oyebanjo

The corporate world is undeniably a unique jungle, characterised by the survival of the fittest. Those entrenched in this environment understand that climbing to the top of the food chain requires strategic prowess. However, the manner in which one navigates this terrain can determine whether they emerge at the summit bruised, battered, bitter, and isolated, or whether they ascend effortlessly, avoiding unnecessary conflicts.

For those aspiring to the latter form of success—be it within the corporate realm (private or public sector) or as an entrepreneur (novice or seasoned)—there exists a guiding beacon: "Predictable Career- My True Life Story" by Hannah Oyebanjo. Critics may argue that offering advice is facile when one hasn't walked in another's shoes. However, I can assure you that Hannah Oyebanjo has not only worn the same shoes you might be wearing now but intimately understands where and how they pinch, hence the release of this insightful book.

Within its pages, Oyebanjo takes her readers on a captivating rollercoaster journey, recounting her experiences from entering the corporate world to establishing her own business. She articulates how she overcame numerous challenges commonly faced in the corporate world, such as the demanding nature of being a management trainee, the frustration of going unrecognised or unappreciated, delays in promotions, the clash between TGIFs and OGIMs, victimisation, and the pervasive issue of unhealthy relationships between colleagues of the opposite sex. To underscore this concern, here are excerpts from a chapter she aptly titled "Banana Peels...":

"Back in my office, while trying to fathom what had just happened, about five or ten minutes later, my intercom rang. It was him. He stuttered at the back end and apologized... When I thought about it, I realzed it was a mometous feeling or emotions that came over him. I think that we had gotten too close to each other....this is one banana peel I almost slipped on."
