Let’s dive into the main topics covered:

What is a Cookie-less Internet and Why Does It Matter?

In this episode, Pascal and I tackled a pressing question from our community: "What does a cookie-less internet mean, and how do I prepare for it?"

For those not familiar, cookies are small text files stored on your device by websites to remember your preferences, track your activity, and personalise your browsing experience. However, with the increasing focus on user privacy, third-party cookies are being phased out by browsers like Chrome and Firefox.

What this means for businesses:

  • You’ll need to rely more on first-party data (data you collect directly from your users).
  • Set up advanced event tracking with tools like Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to measure key interactions on your site (e.g., form submissions, video views, and button clicks).
  • Use tools like Meta Pixel and Conversion API to ensure that you continue getting relevant data for your Facebook and Instagram advertising efforts.

What can you do right now?

  • Review your website’s analytics and advertising tracking setups.
  • Ensure you’re collecting first-party data ethically and effectively.
  • Prioritise privacy-compliant tracking methods to continue delivering personalised experiences.

Boost Your Website’s Accessibility with UserWay

Accessibility is no longer an afterthought—it’s essential for both your users and your SEO performance. In this episode, I introduced UserWay, a fantastic tool for improving your website’s accessibility.

Why Accessibility Matters:

  • It opens your website to a wider audience, including users with disabilities.
  • Search engines reward accessible websites with higher rankings.
  • It’s also good business practice—there’s a market of users with spending power who can’t engage with inaccessible websites.

What does UserWay do? UserWay offers a simple plugin that enhances your site’s accessibility, allowing users to change contrast, adjust text spacing, highlight links, and more. It’s a quick, powerful way to ensure your site is usable by everyone, regardless of their needs.

Actionable Tip: Implement accessibility from the start in your next web build. For existing sites, UserWay can be added quickly and easily, offering a free plan for smaller sites.

Key SEO Insights from Leaked Google Search API Documents

Pascal and I reviewed an interesting article from SEO expert Rand Fishkin, who recently received thousands of leaked Google Search API documents. These documents confirm much of what we already know, but also provide valuable validation for SEO best practices.

Main Takeaways:

  • User behaviour on your site—how long visitors stay, what they click, and how many pages they view—greatly affects your ranking.
  • Internal and external links remain crucial to building trust and authority.
  • Page titles and content structure still play a significant role in ranking.

What should you focus on?

  • Create helpful, resourceful content that engages visitors and encourages them to spend more time on your site.
  • Review your internal linking strategy to ensure all pages are well-connected and easy to navigate.

Build Trust with Website Security

Security isn’t just about keeping hackers out; it’s about building trust with your visitors. In this episode, I highlighted three key ways to enhance your site’s security and build credibility:

  1. SSL Certificates – Ensure your website has a valid SSL certificate installed and that it’s properly configured to avoid warnings in browsers.
  2. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) – Enable 2FA for any logins, which shows visitors you take security seriously.
  3. Regular Security Updates – Run consistent updates on your website's platform and plugins to keep vulnerabilities at bay.

Why it matters: Websites with strong security measures inspire more trust from visitors, increasing the likelihood that they’ll engage with your content, submit their details, or make a purchase.

Keeping Your Blog Relevant: The Importance of Updating Content Categories

Lastly, Pascal suggested a quick win that can drastically improve your SEO—updating your blog’s content categories. Over time, industries evolve, and the language and labelling you use on your blog may become outdated.

How to get started:

  • Review your blog categories and tags to ensure they are relevant to today’s industry terms.
  • Reduce unnecessary categories, and update tags to reflect current trends and topics.

Actionable Tip: Spend some time auditing your blog content. If your categories feel outdated or overly complex, it’s time to simplify and refresh them.
