The European Union (EU) is at the forefront of this effort with the proposed EU AI Act—a groundbreaking piece of legislation designed to govern AI deployment across member states. This Act adopts a risk-based approach, categorizing AI systems according to their potential impact on society.
This article delves into the key aspects of the EU AI Act, including its risk-based framework, the broader concept of social scoring by governments, and how the "Nosedive" episode from Black Mirror illustrated the potential dangers of such systems.
We will also explore the pros and cons of the EU AI Act and its implications for the future of AI regulation.

3. Limited Risk:
Limited-risk AI systems have a lower potential for harm but still require some level of transparency.
These systems are subject to specific transparency obligations, such as informing users that they are interacting with AI, particularly in contexts like chatbots or customer service interactions. The aim is to ensure that users are aware they are engaging with AI, which fosters trust and prevents deception.

Do we wait until each of our respective governments decide to draft versions of the EU's AI legislation or do we proactively seek to create policies and protocols within our organizations that address the general governance issues surrounding this topic at the very least?
Ultimately, that decision rests with the leaders of each organization. One thing is undeniable: The die is cast. The writing (or coding) is written upon the proverbial wall. Reactive or Proactive is a choice we have.
