Navigating the Cloud Transition: Why Automation is Key for Your Business Systems

As someone who started their career in testing, the quest for perfection has always been a driving force for me. This is especially true as we witness an increasing number of solutions being transferred to the cloud. The question that often arises is: how are security, performance, and scalability being managed in the cloud?

Two Worlds of Cloud Applications

There are two main categories of cloud applications:

  1. SaaS Applications: These are managed by vendors and are designed specifically for the cloud.
  2. Infrastructure-based Applications: These applications use cloud infrastructure but function as standalone systems.

Both approaches offer value, reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and minimize the carbon footprint. While I'm offering a simplified overview for the sake of brevity, I assure you that it's in service of getting to the heart of the matter more quickly. So, please bear with me as we delve into the main topic.

The Dynamics of ERP Systems

When it comes to critical business systems like ERP, the transition to Dynamics 365 seems like a natural progression from older systems like Dynamics AX 2009, 2012, Navision, and/or Business Central. The key consideration here is Microsoft's One Version approach, which involves frequent updates and upgrades. While this ensures that your system is up-to-date, it can also be a challenge to keep up with these changes. The major advantage of this approach is that it ensures uniform functionality for all users simultaneously. However, the trade-off is that some adjustments are often required during the upgrade process to ensure seamless operation.

The Solution: Automation

I recently joined XPLUS and I've been exploring their portfolio. One of their standout offerings is Executive Automats, which addresses the challenges of frequent updates in a cloud environment for 微软 Dynamics 365.

Why You Should Automate Regression Testing

Automating regression testing is crucial for maintaining software quality and protecting critical business processes. Microsoft's One Version strategy requires that each major release be thoroughly tested before deployment. In the long run, the cost of not having a regression testing strategy can exceed the investment in automated testing tools. Learn more about Regression Testing

Why You Should Not Skip Performance Testing

Performance testing is vital for assessing real-time system behavior. Executive Automats offers tailored test suites that can be standardized for each new implementation or roll-out, providing real savings in both the short and long term. Learn more about Performance Testing

Why You Need Automated Security Setup for Dynamics 365

Traditional role definition in Dynamics 365 is time-consuming and may not be 100% accurate. Executive Automats allows you to convert real business processes into Duties/Roles, automating up to 90% of the necessary Dynamics 365 security roles. Learn more about D365 Security Setup

In Summary

The transition to the cloud and the ongoing maintenance of systems require a robust set of rules and tools for automation. Automation not only ensures that your systems are secure, scalable, and performant but also frees up valuable resources, allowing you to focus on what truly matters: driving business value.

By embracing automation tools like Executive Automats, you're not just keeping up with the changes; you're staying ahead of them. And this is in fact the place you should be with your business, or?

Some definitions as this might be confusing: ?? Navision: Originally developed by a Danish company, Navision was acquired by Microsoft in 2002. It was later rebranded as Microsoft Dynamics NAV. This ERP solution is primarily aimed at small and medium-sized businesses. ?? ?? Business Central: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is essentially the cloud-based version of Dynamics NAV. It offers a more modern user experience and is integrated with other Microsoft cloud services like Office 365. ?? ?? Dynamics AX: This is another ERP solution from Microsoft, targeted at medium to large enterprises. It has been rebranded as Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations and is now part of the broader Dynamics 365 suite ?? ?? .
