It's Health Workplace Month. What is your organization doing to recognize and strengthen a healthy workplace?
?
One of the questions that came up in one of the conflict resolution trainings that I facilitated was "How do I create a sense of stability for my team when it feels that everything is in flux and changing?"
?
That is such a great question. The quick answer I shared was:
?
1) Tell the team what is NOT changing. So often we focus on what is changing. This creates uncertainty and can ignite fears and uncertainty. Reminding the team what is not changing (our corporate values, our client group, our schedule, etch) can take some of the apprehension away.
2) Ensure you communicate often, clearly and invite questions. Check in on the team. Repeat important details and communication in different ways, I call this cascading communication.
3) Watch how you frame and language the change. Instead of "I have no idea....." say something like "What I am aware of right now is...."
?
Instead of "When will this change roller coaster end...." try something like "I recognize that change can take a lot out of us, what are you doing to nurture your self care in this time?"
?How you talk about what is and is not changing is an important step in how people cope and respond.
CLEAR communication really helps. I created this acronym to remember what CLEAR involves:
C- Compassion and carefully worded statements
领英推荐
L- Listening to understand
E- Engaging the parties involved to share perspectives
A- Assumption Free
R- Respectful
The CLEAR method helps you communicate effectively in times that are moving fast and changing frequently. Communicating CLEARLY avoids the need to do the "mulligan' (the Do Overs).
