Navigating Change: Thriving in Uncertainty

Navigating Change: Thriving in Uncertainty

Change is the only constant in life.

You’ve probably heard that before right?

Recently, I’ve been having a number of conversations with people who are in a period of transition or change.

The reasons for change vary greatly. From organisation restructuring, promotions or redundancy, or a change in a personal situation.

Change can be disorienting, stressful and we often meet it with resistance, but it can also be a powerful catalyst for personal and professional growth.

I’m going through a period of change and transition in my life at the moment, and I think that to some extent at any given moment we’re all experiencing some level of change.

We’re not stagnant beings, we adapt, evolve and grow constantly.

This means that navigating change is a crucial skill that can make or break your success and happiness.

By navigating change with emotional awareness and self-care you can find yourself coming out the other side stronger and more aligned with your goals and who you desire to be.

Here’s 4 things you can do with change to move through it:

  1. Acknowledge your emotions around the change. In some instances change might be exciting, other times it can bring on anxiety, stress and overwhelm.
  2. Stay informed and prepared. Gather any information you can about the change. This could include the reasons behind it, timeframes, potential outcomes, anything that may make the transition less overwhelming for you.
  3. Build a support network. Surround yourself with people who can offer advice, an ear to listen or a sounding board for your thoughts. Don’t hesitate to reach out.
  4. Focus on what you can control. Unfortunately a lot of change can be out of our control, but through identifying actionable steps that you can take and focussing on them you can minimise feelings of helplessness.
