Navigating Career Transitions (6)

In Dutch, we have a wonderful checklist of verbs all starting with the same letter. It's the well-known 5xD list. It helps you to make decisions and form a good opinion about things. Let me attempt to translate it into proper English with the Dutch translation in brackets.

Dream ('dromen'): Always allow creative thoughts to float into your mind. Take the time to let this happen; perhaps a leisurely 30-minute walk or more, or simply sit and gaze out of the window. Share your dreams with your spouse and friends, and don't forget to jot them down. Some will materialize sooner or later.

Think ('denken'): Don't just exist; engage your mind. Don't be a zombie in life; instead, contemplate the events happening around you. Ask yourself why people behave the way they do. What motivates you and keeps you going? Consider the perspectives and sources of inspiration for others.

Dare ('durven'): When you have a dream, dare to step up and find practical ways to turn them into reality. This could be a new business idea, a business improvement in your company, or even pursuing a volunteer job you've always wanted to do.

Do ('doen'): Take action! Register yourself as a volunteer and see what unfolds. Enroll in a course and learn something new, be it a language or a business course. Don't procrastinate; life is too short to take unnecessary risks.

Persevere ('doorzetten'): Keep pushing forward. Understand that not everything you undertake will be successful. Be prepared for disappointments and people letting you down—such is life. Persevere when you have a purpose to pursue or a life vision you want to share with the world.

I experienced these five positive verbs as great contributions to a uplifting mindset. This mindset is necessary in the process of finding a new job.

Stay tuned to my next thoughts and inspirations in my job search journey!
