Navigating the Career Landscape
They say a career happens when you are busy making plans. Someone plans to be a CEO and ends up as a Vice President. Someone else plans to be a Vice President and actually ends up being a CEO. Or better still, running their own company. Your dream job can turn into a nightmare, while a temporary position becomes a lifelong career. You never know if your carefully laid plans will come to fruition. All you know is you are on this crazy ride on this never-ending roller coaster of a career.
Recognizing Opportunities
On this journey, you'll come across various exit ramps. Some have closed doors, dark and foreboding, signaling dead ends. Others have doors wide open, with a welcoming glow inviting you to pivot in that direction. These open doors represent opportunities. It's up to you to choose whether your current ride, your current company, is going to be part of your history or part of your destiny. You choose. To pivot or to stay the course.
Embracing Uncertainty
Just remember that as you progress further, there will be fewer exit ramps you'll come across, and fewer still with those welcoming open doors - opportunities you can pivot to. Sometimes an exit ramp takes you to another bigger and more exciting ride that is part of your destiny. If your current ride is truly your destiny, you will know. But just in case you don't, even choosing an exit ramp will somehow lead you back to the same ride sometime later, as it was meant to be. So don't worry. Choose either way. Your own unique path will emerge as it should, so stay excited and focused on enjoying the ride.
