Navigating a Career Change: When the Situation Seems Unsolvable

Sometimes, we get so entangled in our Career Change challenges that we can't see a way forward.

If you walk away with nothing else from reading this, I want you to know everything is solvable, and there are multiple paths to resolution. The power of taking a different approach when facing a seemingly unsolvable Career situation is completely underrated.

I wanted to cover this topic after a conversation I had with one of my coaching clients this week.

She was thanking me for helping her navigate through a really tough career situation, and was explaining how she could never have got there without my guidance and support.

She felt like she couldn't have done it on her own, because she'd reached a point where in her mind the situation seemed unsolvable!

She really did think there was NO WAY OUT.

I could easily identify this feeling - because I have been in that dark place too.

It's one of the most horrible feelings I've ever felt, to be looking around you and feeling like you are trapped, nothing will ever change, that there is no way out, and no obvious solution - it's crippling.

Firstly, I'm here to tell you, there is ALWAYS a way out, things can and will change, there is a pathway that will free you, in fact, there are multiple possible solutions!

Why is it that we can find ourselves not able to see a path forward when contemplating a Career Change?

Understanding the Career Change Roadblocks

Learned helplessness, over-analysis, biased thinking patterns, emotional overload, and stress responses are common roadblocks that hinder our ability to see solutions clearly. Recognising these barriers is the first step toward overcoming them.

What is it that someone else brings to the situation eg. a coach?

Seeing things you can't, outsiders seem to have greater clarity around your situation, and can easily define goals and action steps to get to where you want to be.

My role as a coach is to help you overcome feelings of being stuck, overwhelmed, or trapped by providing guidance, support, and strategies for personal and professional development.?

And also, bringing a different perspective.

I'm looking from the outside in, and my emotions are not impacting my ability to think and plan.

I'm always astounded how the art of coaching can seem so very simple, yet be amazingly powerful - it blows my mind every time I witness a client have a breakthrough or a HUGE realisation.

Here's how a coach might help you work through your Career Change Challenges:

Active Listening: A coach will listen attentively to your concerns and help you express your thoughts and emotions. Sometimes, just talking about your feelings and the situation can provide relief and clarity. Like clearing away the fog.

Clarification and Goal Setting: My role is to assist you in clarifying your goals and priorities.?

Helping define what you want to achieve and?create a roadmap to get there.?Building a bridge from the present to your future dreams.

Setting clear objectives: Giving you a sense of direction and purpose. And ensuring they are your own, not driven by the beliefs or expectations of others.

Problem-Solving Skills: Coaches are skillful at guiding you through problem-solving processes. Helping you break down complex problems into smaller, more manageable steps, making it easier to see possibilities or solutions, and take action.

Decision-Making Support: If you're struggling with decision-making due to too much information, a coach can help you consider the pros and cons, setting decision criteria, and using a structured decision-making process.

Accountability and Progress Tracking: Coaches help you stay accountable for the goals and actions you've set. Regular check-ins with a coach can help you track your progress and make necessary adjustments to your plan.

Motivation and Confidence Building: Coaches can help boost your motivation and self-confidence, which is essential for taking action and making positive changes in your life.

It's important to note that coaches are not a substitute for mental health professionals, Coaches are typically focused on personal and professional development and may not be equipped to provide the level of mental health support required in some situations.

Sometimes being caught in our own head, and trying to do it alone is our biggest blocker.

My client said to me that she couldn't believe she thought she had to do it on her own - everything changed when she reached out to seek support.

I want you to realise... a problem shared is a problem halved.

Seek help and a different perspective. The result will be Magic.
