Navigating Boundaries in Dating

Picture this: You're navigating the dating scene, hoping to find love, but doubts start creeping in. You wonder if love is even possible for you. Sound familiar? You're not alone. Many singles find themselves in this uncertain space, unsure of how to make love happen.

So typically what they do is join an online dating site in hopes to meet the one. But 9 out 10 times they find themselves overwhelmed, frustrated, and swearing off dating forever!

Here's the thing: When you put yourself out there to meet new men, you're also welcoming opportunities for you to grow. From an energetic perspective, each interaction reveals aspects of yourself, both good and bad. But without understanding this energy dynamic, you will take their reactions, behaviors and unfavorable outcomes as personal disappointment and frustration with relationships in generally. When in fact it's time for you to grow and learn something new about yourself.

Take, for instance, setting boundaries. It's crucial in dating, yet often met with resistance. This actually happened recently to one of my clients.

Recently, a client faced pushback when she expressed her preference for calls over texts to a potential match. Despite a great first date, he insisted on texting only. He was very triggered by her stating that she didn't want to spend time texting to get to know someone new. He became very reactive and frustrated with her request.

But instead of her feeling defeated, she stood her ground, recognizing the importance of honoring her boundaries.

She said, "if it wasn't for the coaching sessions I would have felt defeated and just cancelled my subscription." But instead I felt empowered and grateful for the situation."

So when two people don't align energetically on key values; it will causes friction right away!

There is no need to be upset about this, feel defeated, or judgmental. Take the win that you attracted someone to you and had an opportunity to practice setting healthy boundaries for yourself.

So, here are my final takeaway!

  • Consistent Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries, even in initial interactions are resistant to your boundaries. Stick to what feels right for you.
  • Respect Your Preferences: Don't compromise on what you want just to please someone else. Your needs matter. Especially early on in the "I Just Met You Phase".
  • Embrace Self-Awareness: Understand that each dating experience offers insights into yourself. Use them as opportunities for growth. Don't use poor "outcomes" against yourself. Dating is really just practice for the getting better at connecting with men. (A topic for another day)
  • Stay Empowered: You have the power to shape your dating journey. Trust yourself and your instincts.

In a world where dating can feel overwhelming, remember that you're in control. By honoring your boundaries and staying true to yourself, you'll attract those who appreciate and respect you for who you are. So, stay empowered, stay true, and enjoy the journey.
