Over the past few years, I've had the unique opportunity to guide organizations in harnessing the power of their data through Artificial Intelligence (AI). A core belief of mine, and one widely shared in the tech community, is that the true test of any hypothesis lies in its ability to generate value—enough so that people are willing to pay for it. This belief led to the creation of HAILabs.ai, a platform dedicated to enhancing data and AI literacy through a contextual AI tutor. This journey has been filled with learning, which I've shared in a detailed article (Driving AI and Data Product Success).
The rise of Large AI models has been a game-changer, affecting many AI startups, including ours. These advancements challenged some of our conversational AI solutions, pushing us to innovate further with multimodal capabilities. My consulting work now focuses on helping organizations leverage large AI models to create safe and secure Generative AI (GenAI) applications. Initial lessons from this new venture are outlined here (Thinking of Building Your Own Large Language Model? esynergy).
GenAI is lowering barriers to entry for businesses interested in AI, moving us closer to the ideal of AI democratization. However, achieving the "AI for all" vision is still a work in progress. In the private sector, industries like insurance are exploring ways to enhance efficiency and effectiveness through digital solutions. My work in this area has contributed to rethinking operational models and increasing effectiveness using GenAI in insurance, as discussed here (Demystifying GenAI: Transforming the Insurance Landscape - esynergy).
Public services in the UK, surprisingly, are not hindered by the sunk cost fallacy common in ML and data science investments. The momentum for using AI to create value for citizens is growing, especially following the UK's hosting of the AI Safety Summit in Bletchley Park. This event, which I was fortunate to attend, showcased the UK's leadership in AI safety, a critical consideration as we integrate AI into more aspects of life. My experience at the summit is captured here (The AI Safety Summit).
The excitement around leveraging GenAI to improve productivity and reduce transaction costs in public services is palpable. My engagement with public sectors on various use cases is detailed here (Transforming Governance: The Power of GenAI in Public Administration - esynergy). Initiatives like the HM GenAI framework are instrumental in building trust in AI technologies.
