“Navigating AI Bias: How to Ensure Balanced and Transparent Responses from AI Tools”

Recently, I asked ChatGPT to compare itself with Claude by Anthropic and Perplexity (AI tools). The response from ChatGPT seemed to overly emphasize its own strengths, while providing less comprehensive details on the features of the other two tools.

I then requested that ChatGPT analyze its response for any bias. Initially, it denied any bias, but upon further prompting, I asked for a regenerated response. When compared this new response with the original, ChatGPT acknowledged that the first response could be interpreted as biased, though it did not explicitly admit to any bias. It was only after I directly asked ChatGPT to acknowledge its bias that it conceded to having exhibited bias.

So, If you are a frequent user of AI tools like myself, I recommend reviewing the response for potential bias before proceeding further. Here are some steps you can take to minimize bias (though not eliminate it entirely) when using these AI tools:

  1. Request Explicit Balance: Explicitly request to give equal weight to all perspectives or platforms.
  2. Ask for Multiple Viewpoints: Ask to present multiple viewpoints.
  3. Request Clarification on Limitations: Ask the tool to be specific about the limitations.
  4. Avoid Leading or Overly Positive Prompts: Leading questions can influence towards a specific outcome.
  5. Encourage Transparency: Ask for clarity behind response/ reasoning.
  6. Specify the Level of Detail You Need: Sometimes bias can be a result of overemphasizing certain features.
  7. Cross-Check with Other Sources: Always ask to cross-reference the responses.
  8. Use Feedback to Fine-Tune Responses: Recalibrate your response to reflect more neutrality.

I have attached the snapshot of ChatGPT for reference. Feel free to share your thoughts and views.
