 How can you build momentum in today’s market?

Whether it’s 3 months, 6 months or longer, one thing we know for certain and is that there will be a before and after COVID 19. What’s more, what we do now will impact how prepared we will be to take advantage of the opportunities that will inevitably arise out of current conditions.

Can vs Can’t?

I bet as a child you used to hear the saying: “Can’t means won’t”. These simple three words still ring true today. Sure, there are many measures the Government have introduced that impact heavily on real estate and the way we have traditionally done things but all this means is we need to refocus, adapt, change and find new ways – sometimes better – ways of doing things to achieve our outcomes.

Here are 10 simple steps to help you find the “can” in every situation:

  1. Look at your skill gap - what skills can you hone now that will enable you to be better prepared for the future?
  2. Have an awareness of Government regulations and remain up-to-date with the latest industry changes. Things are happening rapidly so find reputable sources and ensure you are checking in regularly.
  3.  Develop knowledge – now is the perfect time to develop your real estate knowledge. Revise the history of sales in your market, have a solid understanding of your surroundings - schools, shops, services - anything that will demonstrate to potential clients that you are an expert in their market and the only agent of choice!
  4.  Support each other – together our industry can achieve huge things. Be generous in your knowledge, be kind in your dealings and reach out if you see that someone needs an extra hand.
  5.  Learn to switch to business channel at home. There are a lot of distractions in our new home office space so make sure you consciously make the switch to ‘work mode’ at the start of every day. This will ensure a more effective transition to working remotely.
  6. Continue to have connected conversations and watch your language – it’s our role to guide and help people through this process.
  7. Be great at the technical side. Listing presentations, vendor meetings, virtual inspections, negotiations - all of these things are taking part in the virtual work. Get to know the technology available and, better still, become and expert at it.
  8.  Become a decision enabler using your Influencing skills.

Remember the 6 keys;

Who...is involved in the decision process?

What...ideally are you looking for?

When...are you thinking about making the move?

Where...what is your ideal location?

How…is this going to happen?

Why...is that important to you?

  1. Learn to sell a property like a project sales team. Your language and storytelling needs to go to another level.
  2. Amazing pipeline activity – given now we have record low interest rates and a Government who is largely supporting the spending process, it makes sense to have your pipeline activities at full strength!
