Navigate the Psychological Phases of Becoming an Author, Part 4

Hello!

So far I've covered the first three psychological stages of becoming an author: excitement and enthusiasm , self doubt and imposter syndrome , and determination or surrender . You're not going to quit, so once you get to stage 4: hopeful optimism, you've navigated the worst of it and downshifted into, "It's gonna happen!"

There is so much power in making the decision that no matter how long it takes, how much it costs (within reason), or how painful it is, you're going to publish your book.

The sooner you get there, the better. Hopeful optimism is what we need to complete the technical pieces, that in and of themselves, can feel like a big project. Go through editor's marks? Sure, I love seeing my manuscript look like a crime scene with all that red! Go back and forth with the designer to get just the perfect cover that will compel the right reader to buy and read my book post-haste? Sure, no problem! Assemble an advanced reader team, only to discover the 80/20 rule is in full force and effect and it's not 80% of the world that does what they say they're going to do? Of course, I'm game!

Staying hopeful and optimistic are the keys to navigating the end of the middle of your project—where it's all coming together but in super slow motion, and you can hardly wait for it to be over!

My advice here is short and sweet:

  1. Remember why you started and what you want your book to do for you, your business, and for its readers.
  2. Keep in mind being an author is super cool and you'll be a hit at parties. ??
  3. It does need to all get done, just not all at once.

AND—you really are going to love being an author!

If you'd like to see if I can help you with your book (I have options for every budget), schedule a discovery call with me to find out more.

Book Spotlight:

This week's Book Spotlight is a two-fer, and I thank you for reading! In December 2019, I co-authored The Miracle Morning for Teachers: Elevate Your Impact for Yourself and Your Students . This book was a labor of love. I'm not a teacher in the traditional sense, so I spent a year reading more than thirty books on education and teaching, as well as interviewing teachers, administrators, and principals so I could write the book. The goal was to bring the message from the original book, The Miracle Morning Life SAVERS practice, to classrooms so teachers would feel less stress and embrace their original joy of teaching, as well as help students to learn strategies they could use not only for learning, but also for self-development, and even patience and happiness.

Then, 2020 happened. I mean, IYKYK, right?

So while the book has been out for a year and a half, it hasn't had the reach or impact we intended (although we do have 100 reviews on Amazon, with an average rating of 4.7 stars!). Meanwhile, The Miracle Morning Art of Affirmations: A Positive Coloring Book for Adults and Kids co-author, Brianna Greenspan, got both of our books and a few others in the series into Title I and Title III schools in New York City. And the results have been nothing short of astounding. Some schools have reported that, in just a few months, students grades have increased and incidences of fighting, detention, and expulsion have decreased or completely stopped. We've had reports of happier teachers and kids with lower levels of anxiety and depression and increased grades. This made my heart so happy, I just had to share.

It turns out that these books, including The Miracle Morning Companion Planner , The Miracle Morning for Parents & Families (2nd Edition) , The Miracle Morning for College Students , and The Miracle Morning for Addiction Recovery are invaluable tools for social-emotional learning for staff and students.

All of this to say, if you're a school administrator, teacher, or parent, please consider these books as resources for your school district, school, or kids. Feel free to reach out if I can help in any way.

I have written to Honoree before. She worked with my dear friend Joel, and she is aware of me. I need her help with publishing my new two books. My first book The Stars In Your Family, raising your kids with the aid of Astrology was published by Hay House. I do not want to use them again. How do I reach Honoree.
