Nature emergency a critical issue for new UK government

The world is facing a climate and nature emergency that is fast becoming an emergency for people too. This is the greatest challenge of our time and the next five years will be critical to making progress.

Along with CAFOD , Conservation International – UK, Fauna & Flora , Forest Peoples Programme , RSPB , WWF-UK and Zoological Society of London (ZSL) , we are calling on the new Labour government to take urgent action on the global nature emergency.

The UK’s leadership role has slipped considerably in recent years and more ambitious steps towards change are desperately needed.

Building sustainable housing futures for all: filling the knowledge gap on building materials in informal settlements

The construction industry plays a major role in climate change and environmental damage, while most new buildings in the coming decades will house the urban poor in the global South. If the construction and building industry is to reach the goal to decarbonise by 2050, it must consider the materials used for housing in informal settlements.

Lack of focus on this agenda and lack of knowledge about the factors that affect the supply chain for these materials makes it hard to take effective action. Filling that knowledge gap is crucial to improving the housing conditions of the urban poor and achieving a fair transition towards a more sustainable building and construction industry.
