Natural Postpartum Acne Remedies for Clear Skin

Natural Postpartum Acne Remedies for Clear Skin

A woman’s body goes through a lot when she is pregnant, and the skin is no exception. It can take time for your skin to rebound after you give birth, and that goes for everything from your stretched-out belly to breakouts. Many women experience acne during pregnancy. It’s most common during the first and second trimesters. Increased hormones, called androgens can cause the glands in your skin to grow and produce more sebum, hence, oily, waxy substance cause clogged pores, bacteria, inflammation, and breakouts.

Women who face breakout issues during their menstrual periods are more prone to pregnancy acne. Postpartum acne is common and sometimes unavoidable. Fortunately, pregnancy and postpartum acne are usually temporary. It will likely clear up once your hormones return to normal. Until then, we’ve rounded up some remedies from all-natural remedies to daily skincare dos and don’ts.

Oatmeal + Cucumber Mask: Cucumber and oatmeal both are smoothing and cooling for the skin, which is a great combination to combat acne. Cucumber contains a high amount of silica, a mineral that keeps our connective tissue together where oatmeal helps repair skin damage, and heals wounds. It is beneficial in rosacea and acne too. Whip up cucumber juice, grounded oatmeal and honey together and leave it on skin for 15 mins. Rinse and follow up with a regular moisturizer.

Cinnamon + Honey Mask: Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory cinnamon increase blood circulation, bringing oxygen and blood back to the surface of the skin. It decreases inflammation, and when mixed with the anti-microbial properties of honey, makes for effective acne treatment. Form a paste of one tablespoon of cinnamon powder with 2-3 teaspoons of raw honey and apply it on the skin. It will not get dried, so wash it off after 20 mins.

Bentonite Clay: Very basic and probably of powerful detoxifier and absorbent. The clay can help remove sebum from the skin’s surface and it also has a calming effect on inflamed breakouts. Simply apply a thick paste of clay with water to the affected area. Do not let it get too dry; see the magic of this age-old remedy.

Other than that, don’t overwash. Washing your skin too much removes its natural moisture. This can then increase oil production and make you more prone to breakouts. Very hot water can also dry out your skin. Using a mild, soap-free cleanser with cool or lukewarm water in the morning, at night and after heavy sweating helps.

Avoid scrubbing. Exfoliation is good, but abrasive rubbing is a big No. Use your hands or a soft washcloth with gentle pressure and cleanse your skin in a circular motion. You really don’t need a separate cream or tool for this.

Wash your hair regularly, particularly if it’s oily, and try to keep it off your face.
