Natural Born Leader?

Can you train yourself to become a great leader?

Is being a great leader something you’re born with? Or can you undertake training to become one?

I believe the answer is both.

As with most professions there are those who have natural instincts and/or charisma and find it easy. But I also believe that many of us have the potential within us.

Often, we don’t see our own potential but somebody else does. Conversely, some of us know we have the potential but don’t know how to show it to others. Sometimes all we need is a little bit of help to show us how to shine.

I equally believe there are people managers and leaders currently in position who shouldn’t ever have that privilege, because it is just that - a privilege to manage or lead people. To do so effectively requires empathy, emotional intelligence and understanding. This will generate trust, loyalty and respect. But that’s a whole other post…

With the right development, great leadership and management CAN be taught, particularly when the person wants to succeed and equally, wants others to succeed under their leadership and management.

Over the years I’ve attended various leadership training programmes and workshops, and although these have been incredibly useful, with hindsight I feel many simply scraped the surface. I felt that something was missing...

What’s missing from lots of leadership training programmes?

Something ALL great leaders have in common is self-awareness. Couple this with emotional intelligence and the genuine desire to help develop other people and you’ve got a recipe for leadership success. So that’s why I’ve created my leadership programmes – not just to develop management skills, but to learn and embody the traits of inspiring leaders.

By placing emphasis on personal growth in the form of self-awareness and emotional intelligence, you’ll lead by example. You will become a leader who people want to follow and who influences and effects a cohesive and positive workplace culture.

The first programme “Foundation level Leadership & Management” will be accredited as ILM Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management and launches in January 2023. It will enable individuals to learn both the management and technical skills required by a leader but will also encourage self-development in these more personal areas. This will create a core foundation for robust leadership that will teach you how to understand yourself, your people and your business.

Following programmes will build on this initial programme to enable study for both Level 5 and Level 7 accreditation should leaders wish to continue their development from skilled people manager to junior leader to senior leader.

From Manager to Leader

?There are plenty of managers out there – many of whom are excellent at the work they do, but this doesn’t make them a ‘leader. These are often people who’ve been made a manager or team leader because they are great at their job or because they’re happy to take on extra responsibility and seem like an “obvious choice”. But they may not have had “management” or “leadership” expertise that they need to be superb manager or leaders.

?Is this you?

This programme will be ideal for managers who have been promoted but not yet received any formal development to support them in their role. It’s also perfect for small business owners and founders who want their business to have a great people culture or for anyone who aspires to management and leadership roles in the future.

The primary focus of this Foundation level Leadership & Management will be understanding yourself. For example, how others see you, how to build your personal brand, developing your emotional intelligence, communicating well and how to build an effective team (even if it is only a small one).

There will also be topics covering the basics of management and leadership to start you on your way or to help you improve and embed what you already do and know.
