Natterhub's Holiday Sun Screen Tips!
Digital devices like tablets and gaming consoles can be a lifesaver when kids are home for the holidays. We have some straightforward online safety tips that will make all the difference in keeping children safe on screens this summer.
Permission to access
Through permission-based access, you can control your child's screen time and engage in regular digital dialogues. This requires your child to ask an adult before going online, providing a chance to review their online plans and app/game preferences.
Screen time limits
Just as you limit a child's access to sweets, do the same for screen time. Use apps and devices with a time-limited feature. This prompts your child when they reach their limit, reinforcing permission-based access. They'll need to come to you for extra screen time.
Oversee screens
To ensure your child's online safety, it's wise to supervise their screen time. Keep devices in communal areas and periodically check visible screens. This enables you to observe their behaviour during online activities.
Talk digital
Maintain regular, open dialogues about your child's online experiences, assuring them they can share any concerns without fear or shame. This fosters a supportive and understanding digital environment. Be inspired with our age-focused 'Conversation Starters'.
