The Native Delusion

Unfortunately, there is a common fallacy between Iranian English learners that they believe when they reach B2 level of English, they become like English Native speakers, allowing themselves to teach the language right away. I reckon that, to a certain extent, the main cause of this is so-called English language teachers out there teaching wrong stuff, things like "if you say this or that you will sound like an American ... ." or "Do not say Thank you all the time, say blah blah blah instead, if you want to sound like a native ... ." They instill fake confidence into language learners, making them deluded into thinking that they are competent enough to teach others, while in fact they cannot make effective communications when push comes to shove. Being a native like requires a great command of English in detail, in a way that you must be able to understand, comprehend, and use natural structures of English language off the cuff in different situations. Simply put, if you still watch with English subtitles, you are not a native - not to mention that it is quite impossible to be so in a country like ours. That's it!
