Last year wildfire season really took its toll across the State of California. The Butte Fire swept through Amador and Calaveras counties scorching 70,868 acres and destroying 475 homes and the Valley Fire devastated Lake, Napa, and Sonoma counties, consuming 76,067 acres and destroying 1,281 homes. Now with the El Nino rains, California is experiencing severe weather, flooding, and landslides.
All to often Native American communities are the hardest hit by natural disasters and need resources, tools, and information to recover and rebuild their lives. One tool that will help is The Red Guide to Recovery - Resource Handbook for Disaster Survivors that was recently customized for the California Tribal Fire Chief's Association. The CTFCA wanted to have a resource available to hand out after fires, floods, or other disaster events so Native American communities would know what to do, who to trust, and where to turn for help when disaster strikes. As a result, we customized The Red Guide to Recovery specifically for Tribes throughout California so first responders would have a recovery road-map to help them rebuild their homes and lives.
Our mission is to help strengthen the resiliency of Native American and Alaska Native communities across the U.S. and work to prevent future disaster survivors from becoming disaster victims.
