A Nation's Wealth and its Human Capital
The wealth of every Nation can be demonstrated by the quality of its Human Capital.
Nigeria, the most populous African country is blessed with a population of over 206 million people (Worldometer, 2021)
Interestingly, by statistics, over 60% of this population is under 25 years – Oh, such a youth dominant country!
The question that has been ringing in my mind is -
“What percentage of this entire population is actually engaged in productive activity?”
It was shocking to know that over 50% of the labour force in Nigeria is either unemployed or underemployed (NBS, 2021)…Why should this be?
A country can be said to only be as good as its people. A country’s economic power is in the hands of its citizens.
Unfortunately, with the current situation of things, a lot of persons either have given up or at the verge of doing so.
But wait, is there no more hope for Nigeria and its people? Certainly, there is!!!
Human capital is a country’s asset for boosting its productivity and economic value.
I believe that every individual is blessed with special gift, talent, skill, or ability. Whether inherent or learnt, exploiting their full potential will require some form of training and management.
Intentional Investment in our Human Capital can be the game-changer.
ROMANS 10:14 – “But how are people to call upon Him Whom they have not believed [in Whom they have no faith, on Whom they have no reliance]? And how are they to believe in Him [adhere to, trust in, and rely upon Him] of Whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? – AMPC”
Self -awareness is key. Our youths need direction, guidance, and mentorship.
In our little corners, we can create platforms to identify, train and nurture these special gifts, talents, skills, and abilities. Let us support and give hope to them that are weary.
Together, we can rebuild our nation and have a New Nigeria to Enjoy!!!
