National Volunteer Week 2023: Asuris employees give back to their community

Asuris Northwest Health has a rich history supporting the local communities where we live and work. While we empower employees to volunteer in their communities year-round, National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to shine a light on colleagues who actively volunteer and help advance the missions of nonprofit organizations.??

Kimberly Thielman, assistant director of sales enablement at Asuris, serves on the board of the Women & Children Free Restaurant and Community Kitchen (WCFR). “In Spokane County alone, one in six children face food insecurity. As past board president of WCFR, I am so proud that they have provided over 3.2 million meals since the onset of the pandemic,” said Thielman. “They were able to pivot and meet the needs of our community during this difficult time. Asuris continues to be a community partner with WCFR through donations, fundraisers and volunteer events. I appreciate the volunteer time and matching funds for our employees that Asuris pledges. This is my seventh and final year on the board, but not my last as a volunteer!”?

In the last 5 years, Asuris employees have supported nearly 50 causes that are important to them through volunteerism. Our health plan employees are supported by a range of giving and volunteer opportunities through our corporate foundation, including employee-donation matching, volunteer rewards, board service and more.?

Kathleen Rounds, sales and renewals supervisor with Asuris, has volunteered with a variety of organizations over the years. “I have volunteered for the Tree of Sharing, Second Harvest Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity. I’m always impressed with the generosity of our community,” said Rounds. “I love that the Dollars for Doers program helps me double my impact! Many of the volunteer activities I’ve done throughout my 15-year career at Asuris started out as an Asuris team activity. It’s always fun to leave the office for a few hours to spend time with my coworkers to do something good for our local community.”?

Launched in 2022 by our corporate foundation, Dollars for Doers is a rewards program that incentivizes Asuris employees to volunteer. When Asuris employees log volunteer time, the Foundation directs $20 per hour to the cause(s) of their choice. We are honored to help employees make a bigger impact in support of the causes that mean most to them.?

“As someone who has lived in this community for 30 years, I’m grateful to our employees who are creating meaningful change through their volunteerism,” said Brady Cass, president of Asuris. “It’s incredible to see employees step up – especially when you see the level of need here in our own backyard.”??
