National Volunteer Month Spotlight: Bret Flores
April is National Volunteer Month, and Tokio Marine Highland is proud to celebrate and highlight the volunteer work that our team is doing in their communities. This week, we're spotlighting Bret Flores , Account Service Representative.
What is an example of your volunteer work, and why did you choose to get involved?
I help run a local harm reduction organization in DFW where we provide resources and supplies to those who are in need - like the unhoused or those in high risk of overdose. I was introduced to harm reduction through my current studies as I work towards my degree. We hold monthly free stores and table events across DFW providing supplies like Naloxone (Narcan) and other overdose prevention supplies.
What do you find most interesting or rewarding from your experience?
I live by the mantra of ‘save one life, save the world.' Knowing people have the tools and education to protect themselves against the overdose epidemic is why I do what I do.
What is your favorite part about volunteering in your community?
Meeting all sorts of people and creating those connections with them. Practicing radical empathy and being a compassion human being to whoever needs an ear to listen or a hug.
