National Travel and Tourism Week Honors the Spirit of Travel
The coronavirus (COVID-19) public health crisis is having an unprecedented impact on the travel industry and the entire economy. Cruises are being rescheduled for later dates, vacation plans are on hold, as are special occasions, graduation ceremonies, weddings and other gatherings and celebrations.
That is why, as first vice chair of U.S. Travel Association, I strongly believe that now more than ever is the time to rally our industry, take charge of the narrative and demonstrate our resiliency. National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is this week (May 3-9) and I’m happy to say it is one event that is not being postponed.
The travel and tourism community is coming together, supporting each other and reminding travelers everywhere that, even through the most difficult times, the Spirit of Travel cannot be broken. This NTTW honors the spirit of travel in recognition of the industry’s strength, selflessness and resiliency.
During times of uncertainty, we know that the spirit of travel remains strong. I see it in the thousands of letters and social media posts from our guests and our team members, sharing their support and uplifting message of #WeWillBeBack. I see also it in the challenge circulating on social media asking cruisers to post their favorite cruise vacation photos. So many are posting photos from past cruises and reliving their greatest vacation memories, which is what our industry is all about.
The spirit of travel brings joy and memorable experiences to millions, year over year. It’s not only about far-away destinations. Communities benefit from the spirit of travel, which permeates through to small businesses, historic landmarks and all those who welcome residents and visitors alike with their warm hospitality. Carnival is proud to have 16 ports in communities we call home throughout North America, and our cruises not only bring about a huge economic impact for those cities, but also help to unite us at a human level with our neighbors from near and far.
People from all backgrounds and all walks of life connect through the spirit of travel. When the time is right, the travel and tourism industry will be integral to our nation’s recovery—for the economy and American jobs. And the spirit of travel will serve to help us heal from these extraordinary times.
I urge everyone to take a moment this week to remember a trip that changed their lives, and honor the Spirit of Travel by sharing your memories on social media with the hashtags: #SpiritOfTravel and #nttw20. Because even though we can’t gather yet, we can connect online, unify and support each other and the industry we love.

4 年I believe that the spirit of travel and tourism is strong because those who are dedicated to what they do are strong but it.is not noticed or considered by those, who under the guise of caring upper management and leaders, use deception, greed and lies to their advantage. This does not apply to all, but shame on all who are using COVID-19 as an excuse to mislead and to do misdeeds. For those of us who strive to do what we do to the best of our abilities, to not only work hard for employers, our clients and each other, I have much love and respect for you. It is my hope and my prayer, that the lives lost will decrease, and truth, love, honor and respect will increase now and forever more. We are going to get through this together and will be better and stronger. Keep praying and hoping and believing. May God bless and keep us all!
