In Hindu culture there is a celebration of the bond between brothers and sisters called Raksha Bandhan. Hindu women tie a thread, the 'rakhi', on the wrist of their brother. In return the brother gives the sister a gift. The exchange of the rakhi and the gift symbolises that they both agree to protect and care for each other.?
Raksha Bandhan in Sanskrit literally means 'the bond of protection, obligation and care'. It is normally observed on the last day of the Hindu lunar calendar month of Shrvana, around August.
Although we are not in August, today is National Siblings Day, and the same sentiment applies; to protect and care for your brothers or sisters.
This does not mean that you have to be a blood relative to celebrate today. Celebrate anyone with whom you have a unique connection. @kingsleygreenrecruitment we want to shine a light on the value of family, siblings, half siblings, step siblings and friends and the important role they have.
