National PTSD Awareness Month: Honoring Survivors and Fostering Understanding

June marks National PTSD Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and supporting individuals who have experienced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD can develop in people following a profoundly traumatic event such as war, violent assaults, accidents, neglect, non-physical trauma such as verbal/emotional abuse or other life-altering experiences.

This month serves as an opportunity to shed light on the impact of PTSD, share knowledge about its symptoms and treatment, and extend compassion and support to survivors.

In this article, we will explore the significance of National PTSD Awareness Month, delve into the effects of PTSD, and discuss ways we can contribute to the well-being of those affected.

Understanding PTSD: Post-traumatic stress disorder is a mental health condition that can develop after someone experiences or witnesses a traumatic event. Trauma and PTSD can also emerge at any point during one's lifespan. Trauma can take various forms, including combat exposure, physical or sexual assault, natural disasters, accidents, or any event that threatens a person's life or safety. The Impact of PTSD: PTSD can have a wide range of effects on individuals, both psychologically and physically. Some common symptoms include:
