National Press Club - World Alzheimer's Day

If you missed the National Press Club Speakers today, World Alzheimer's Day, I suggest that you watch the repeat or find it online. Ita Buttrose and Dr Ron Petersen's speeches and responses to the questions posed by the participants were excellent and informative of where the this disease is now and clear with what we need to do now enable sufferers and carers alike. The numbers of people suffering now and in 2050 as well as cost to government to provide care are staggering.

There needs to be more funding from Government and Private organisations to slow, prevent and eventually cure this disease. Investment in tools and monitoring to provider not only the researchers but the family and clinicians with better information to ensure better care.

Ita spoke that the biggest issue she sees is that we don't talk about this disease in our families and that there is a stigma in being diagnosed leads people to not seek the correct help for the carer and the sufferer.
