National Pharmacist Day
Western Maricopa Education Center
Career and Technical Education Public School District
At West-MEC, there are currently 29 career training programs that our students actively participate in, one of them being the Pharmacy Science program.
National Pharmacist Day is a day to honor all pharmacists across the nation for the vital role they play in patient care; nowadays, they often work directly with patients on their road to recovery.
In the Pharmacy Science program at West-MEC, students are taught the delivery of pharmaceutical services alongside licensed pharmacists in a pharmacy setting. The program also teaches medical terminology, pharmacy law, quality customer service, pharmacology, preparing prescription medications, and administrative duties such as inventory of drugs and pharmacy operations.
Not to mention, students are provided with internships, leadership training, and many other opportunities to not only help them learn about their program, mastering the essential functions an entry-level role would entail, but also how to land a job in their field, and how to act as a professional. Something they may not get in a traditional school setting. West-MEC truly is a fantastic place for students to learn and grow their skills, placing them on a path toward economic independence.
Careers that a student could pursue after receiving their certification(s) include but are not limited to a pharmacy technician in a community pharmacy, hospital, long-term care facility, compounding facility, compounding pharmacy, mail-order insurance companies, sales, and education.
