National Nurses Week Day 2: APRNs

National Nurses Week Day 2: APRNs

Happy National Nurses Week! Today we spotlight Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, or APRNs. These nurses must hold a Master's Degree or higher.

There are four APRN practice specialty roles. We'll discuss two of them in this first part of our ARPN spotlight. The other two will be featured in a separate post this week.

  • Advanced practice nurse practitioners (NP) offer primary, specialty, and acute care, specializing in areas including oncology, family health, and mental health.

  • Advanced practice certified nurse-midwives (CNM) provide care to women from adolescence to menopausal years, including during labor.

According to the Florida Center for Nursing's 2023 report "The State of the Nursing Workforce in Florida," there are 45,181 active APRN licenses in Florida. Miami-Dade County has the greatest number of APRNs (5,716). A majority of Florida APRNs work in a hospital setting (37.1%), and the most common specialty is adult/family health (28%).
