National NP Week: Recognizing MinuteClinic’s Health Care Heroes

The nursing industry has been a wonderful gift to me. Being a part of this profession has not only helped me grow as an individual and professional, but it has also given me endless opportunities to witness the incredible work that nurse practitioners do every day. I feel immense joy in seeing them excel in their field and advance their careers. As an NP myself, I am passionate about training, educating and mentoring the next generation of nurse practitioners.??

National Nurse Practitioner Week is here, and this year’s theme from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is perfect for our providers: “Recognizing Heroes in Health Care.” It's time to celebrate and acknowledge the work of NPs everywhere, especially those at MinuteClinic.?

We are proud to have exceptional health care heroes across the country who provide high-quality care to our communities. Our MinuteClinic NPs are instrumental in solving health care challenges and saving lives.??

As we celebrate, I’m proud to share the stories of some of the health care heroes across our practice.?

For instance, Michele Corrice, a clinician with MinuteClinic, recently provided life-saving care to a patient during a virtual visit.? After speaking with the patient, Michele uncovered that the patient had trouble breathing in addition to a history of COPD, diabetes, hypertension and congestive heart failure—and had recently stopped taking her medication. Michele took quick action and recommended an immediate evaluation to assess her lungs and heart for fluid. Thankfully, the patient was admitted to the ER, where she received treatment and avoided heart failure.??

Melissa Jalil, another exceptional MinuteClinic practitioner, saved a patient's life by identifying a dangerous condition during a COVID-19 evaluation. While the patient did test positive for COVID-19, he was also experiencing atrial fibrillation, putting him at risk for threatening conditions such as stroke, heart attack and pulmonary embolism. Melissa’s thoroughness saved his life and he was admitted to the emergency room and treated immediately.?

These are just two examples of the incredible impact NPs make in the lives of patients every day. Although our providers don’t wear capes, their clinical expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality care make them true health care heroes. They are wonderful examples of what it means to be exemplary nurse practitioners who bring their hearts to every moment of our patient's health.??
