NATIONAL MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH - MAY 2020

Throughout the month of May, Koch VETS honor the service and sacrifice of our service members – past and present, and their families, and the contributions of our public servants who have and will continue to contribute to the history and development of our great country.

In 1999, Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month to publicly recognize the sacrifices made by Service members, including those who have died in the pursuit of freedom and peace. May was chosen because there are several military-specific observance days in the month.

Since our country’s founding, brave members of our armed forces have stood strong as one American team, ready to defend our homeland and safeguard the values for which we stand. They represent the best our nation has to offer. Without them, the freedom, liberty and way of life we hold so dear would be impossible to maintain.

Serving alongside them are proud and loving family members – heroes in their own right. The love and support they provide is more important than words can adequately describe.

Koch VETS encourage all Americans to observe this month-long celebration and, in a symbol of unity, show their enduring gratitude to our service members and their family members for contributing to our Nation’s legacy.

May 1 – Loyalty Day is a day for U.S. citizens to reaffirm their loyalty to their country and to remember their heritage. (Originated in 1921)

May 3 – May 9 – Public Service Recognition Week honors the public servant, including the military, at local, state, regional and federal levels.  (Originated in 1985)

May 8 – Victory in Europe (VE) Day marks the anniversary of the Allies’ victory in Europe during World War II. (Originated May 8, 1945)

May 8 – Military Spouse Appreciation Day celebrates the sacrifice and support of military spouses. (Originated in 1984)

May 25 – Memorial Day is a time to commemorate the men and women who died while in military service. (Originated in 1868 as Decoration Day)

One way to show your gratitude to our service members and families is to donate to charities that support veterans or their families. For some suggestions, contact us at [email protected]
