National Merit? $2500 Scholarship Winners

Today, National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC?) announced this year’s National Merit? $2500 Scholarship winners. The 2,500 Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.

These Scholars were selected by a committee of college admission officers and high school counselors, who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by both the Finalists and their high schools: the academic record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned; scores from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT?); contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by the Finalist; and a recommendation written by a high school official.

NMSC finances most of these single-payment National Merit $2500 Scholarships. Corporations and company foundations that sponsor awards through NMSC?also help underwrite these scholarships with grants they provide in lieu of paying administrative fees. Donations made to NMSC’s President’s Fund also provide funding for National Merit $2500 Scholarships. Scholars may use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university

When asked what this award meant to him, 2023 National Merit $2500 Scholarship winner Daron Sun said, " It’s definitely an honor and a blessing to win this award. Receiving it has made me feel gratified for the effort I put into pursuing academic excellence and motivated to continue pushing my academic boundaries. There are so many capable and ambitious people in the nation, so being part of this community of NMSC Scholars is exciting, but also humbling. I hope my engineering career supported by the award will be able to give back to the communities that have helped me grow and make strides to branch out aid in other areas as well." Daron also shared his thoughts on the importance of sponsoring scholarships and donating to NMSC: "Not-for-profit programs such as NMSC are fostering innovation and increasing access to education for those who need it. At the end of the day, donating to NMSC is making a difference where one’s contribution can change the lives of ambitious students and future leaders.
