National Mentoring Month: Join us!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska
Create & support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power & promise of youth. IT TAKES LITTLE TO BE BIG!
January is National Mentoring Month — a time to celebrate the life-changing power of mentorship in shaping brighter futures for Alaska’s youth. At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska, we’re committed to creating connections that empower young people to realize their full potential.
The impact of mentoring is undeniable. Kids in our programs grow more confident, perform better in school, strengthen their relationships, and develop a deep sense of self-worth. (Later this month, we’ll share new evidence about the economic impact of mentoring and its ripple effect on communities. Be sure to tune in to the TODAY Show on Monday, January 27th, to hear from our Big Brothers Big Sisters of America President and CEO!)
Here in Alaska, many young people are facing challenges that a caring mentor can help them navigate — whether it's building confidence, overcoming obstacles, or simply having someone to count on. The need for mentors is greater than ever. Across the state, there are kids waiting for someone to stand in their corner, share new experiences, and help them see the possibilities ahead.
While the minimum commitment for a match is just one year, in Alaska, our Bigs, Littles, and their families often choose to keep the connection going much longer — on average, 33 months! These lasting relationships speak to the joy and impact mentoring brings to everyone involved. That someone could be you.
This National Mentoring Month, we invite you to step up and make a difference for Alaska’s youth. Become a Big, support our mission with a financial gift, or help spread the word about the power of mentoring. Every action matters. Together, we can empower more Alaskan youth and create stronger, more vibrant communities.
