The National COVID-Liberation Anthem: Our Psycho-Cultural Divide
While most of my time involves doing tele- and Skype-therapy sessions, individual and group, and an occasional webinar, I still manage to be consumed by the Covid-Circus and our Chief Ringleader. Consider the following:
Somehow I reconnected to my old newsletter masthead:
Fight when you can
Take flight when you must
Flow like a dream
In the Phoenix we trust!
And then envisioned the quatrain being reconfigured, capturing some of this country's psycho-cultural-political divide. Enjoy or not! Mark
The National COVID-Liberation Anthem
Warning: These lines may be hazardous to the ironically-impaired!
Social distancing is for socialists (duh)
Ripping off damn masks is a must
Warriors protest, defiantly chant:
In the Clorox Kool-Ade We Trust! We Trust!
In the Trumpster Fire We Turn to Dust!
Amen and women, to that!

And here's the poetic parody that started it all!
COVID & Trump: The Mother and Human Nature of Terror (or "Pick Your Poison")
I don’t mean to get you down
Or make you that more livid
But there’s a new terrorist in town
Its code name: 19-COVID.
Some righteous claim the devils’ hand
Spreads killer germs; sinners breathe in hell
But I think it’s the Chief in Command
Plotting this global terror cell.
This network’s contagious vision: “herd immunity”
But try to remember, when we meet in September
The fine line between vision and hallucination
And between immunity and herd mentality!
Al Korona, Al Korona
Go ahead, laugh and scorn
Al Korona, better warn ya
Trumpster tweets zap neurons, by the millions
Now who’s the real moron?
Early on we had a chance
To stop the viral spread.
But he dismissed the Intelligence
With a Trumpty Dumpty song and dance:
Alas, too many live in dread.
But he says, “Why the worry?
You have my wall, a great, great thing of beauty
Those lowlife germs can’t get through
Hell, anyway, ‘It’s just the flu’
We can stow body bags with the Navy!”
Al Korona, Al Korona
We’ll whistle blow your brain
Al Korona, we’ll do a number
If you dare leak, or break the command chain!
He had an Easter Sunday mission
To have the country rise again
Under the banner of patriotism
Risk your life for capitalism.
All in favor say, Amen!
He knows the big blue breeding grounds
Where the dirty scum all concentrate
Migrants, gays, and liberal minds
The blacks and browns and all their kind
Screw this distancing; there’s no time to waste.
Of course, he wants us back to work
To spread those COVID germs
Not just to best that Obama jerk
This emergency becomes a perk:
To beat Roosevelt’s four terms.
Al Korona, Al Korona
Attracts EGOS who would be kings
Al Korona’s simple formula:
Let billionaires and faux lobbyists
Honey grabbers and white supremacists
To always do their thing!
And then those whiny Governors
Just want to ventilate.
“Oh, you need those ventilators?
You ungrateful agitators…
Kneel down, and now prostrate!”
FOX News is the terror channel: Disinformation TV
According to Doc Laura
Shutdown is the horror
Just embrace the new normal
Hey, COVID’s no worse than good old HIV!
Do a Clinton on Doctor Fauci
An angry chant like, “Lock him up!”
As we infiltrate your constitution
Me and terror buddy, Vladi Putin!
(And with us, no need for a prenup!)
Al Korona, recruits protesters
Demanding liberty; defying communal laws
With but one goal: to give a life for a higher cause, like
Al Korona, it’s such an honor
When the life we give is yours!
Now Dr. T knows history
Is driven by “boom or bust”…
And what better purifying saying
To surely have the country praying
Than, “By God, In Bleach We Trust!”
It’s a Jonestown moment
Reality TV-made.
Think out of the box
With a little Clorox…
And drink the new Kool-Ade!
Al Korona, Al Korona
Beware healthcare socialism!
Al Korona, eugenics is a misnomer
So too the catchy, “Boomer Remover.”
We’re just culling the old stock
A “Lottery” by viral clock
Just a little Social Darwinism!
** “Lottery”: “The Lottery” is a short story written by Shirley Jackson, first published in the June, 26, 1948 issue of The New Yorker. The story describes a fictional small town in contemporary America, which observes an annual rite known as “the lottery,” in which a member of the community is selected by chance to be murdered by stoning (Wikipedia).
