The National continues its expansion

This year in the Middle East and North Africa, has already been marked by massive political, social, cultural and business developments. The National has been bringing you expansive coverage every single day of 2021, as we have done since we launched in 2008.

Top stories this year have ranged from a renewed unity for GCC countries to plans for a futuristic city at Saudi Arabia’s Neom to an increase in terror attacks by Yemen’s rebel Houthis. There is a fresh public health crisis for the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, brought on by a spike in Covid-19 cases, even as economic uncertainty and unrest grips parts of the region including Lebanon, Iraq and Tunisia. Egypt is also at a critical juncture as it battles the pandemic amid economic and social progress.

To better follow events, we have expanded our news gathering network in the region, in addition to strengthening our newsroom of journalists in our home base of Abu Dhabi. We have bureaux in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and correspondents across the countries of the Gulf and Middle East and North Africa, including Iraq, Jordan and Tunisia.

As we grow, to better help you find the news that matters most to you, on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, The National is launching dedicated digital editions for the Gulf and the Middle East & North Africa. There, you will easily find all of our breaking news and in-depth coverage of those regions.

The National will now have six dedicated digital editions – in addition to UAE, UK, US and International sites – as well as a seventh, print edition, giving you more choice of how to receive the stories and articles that matter most to you, wherever you may be. You will continue to get a rich mix of articles, videos and podcasts.

With the depth and breadth of our coverage, we hope to give our readers something that is quite new but at the same time familiar; part of our ambition to be the first outlet for any in the English language reader who wants to be fully informed on our rich and diverse part of the world, and updated on the view from this region about global developments.
